About Pewtermill Crafts
Pewter has been used in Scotland for centuries; first discovered by the Romans around 200 AD, it was once known as the ‘metal of kings’ because only royalty could afford it. This piece is made in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, by Pewtermill Crafts, a small family business founded by David Harkison in 1960, which produces fine pewter jewellery and giftware.
Caring for pewter
Pewter needs very little care. Wipe it with a soft cloth to keep it bright, and if it needs a clean, use warm soapy water then dry it straight away. Avoid abrasive cleaners and the dishwasher. Over time pewter can develop a softer, antique sheen, which many people love.
