About Julia Cunningham

Julia Cunningham designs and makes her bags in her studio in the heart of the Scottish Borders, working mainly with fine tweeds, tartans and printed linens from textile mills in and around the Scottish and English Borderlands. She loves to use the natural flaws, rough edges and quirks of the cloth, pairing different fabrics in unexpected ways, adding yarns and sometimes leaving seams on the outside to bring out texture and colour. Because she buys cloth in small quantities, her bags are contemporary, quirky and fun – and genuinely unique.

Caring for your tweed bag

Tweed and tartan are hard-wearing natural wools. Brush off dust with a soft clothes brush, spot clean marks gently, and store your bag stuffed with paper in a dust bag so it keeps its shape. For a deeper clean, take it to a dry cleaner. Because each bag is handmade from small runs of cloth, the colours and patterns of the fabric are unique to your bag.
